Abstract	A methodological approach to assessing the economic security of an enterprise based on a hierarchical model is proposed, and the approach is tested in the process of assessing the level of economic security of coal-mining enterprises that are part of CJSC “VNESHTORGSERVIS” of the Branch № 2 of CJSC “VNESHTORGSERVIS” OD “Krasnodonugol”.
Synopsis	Aim. Development of a methodological approach to assessing the economic security of an enterprise based on the formation of a hierarchical model that allows to take into account changing of operated factors of the enterprise environment and ensuring its sustainable operation. Technique. To assess the economic security of an enterprise, a methodological approach has been developed based on the use of a structured hierarchical model, which is a system consisting of levels and elements located on them that reflect the functions performed, indicators and factors that have a mutual influence on each other and on the entire system. The calculated resulting effect of all elements located at different levels of the model allows to determine the level of economic security of the enterprise. Results. A methodological approach to assessing the economic security of an enterprise is proposed, based on the formation of a hierarchical model with the calculation of the economic security coefficient, which characterizes the ability of an enterprise to condemn existing and potential threats, as well as to ensure the sustainable operation of enterprises in the short-term outlook and development in the long term. Based on the calculation of the proposed coefficient, the level of economic security of the studied coal mining enterprises was assessed. Scientific novelty of the proposed methodological approach consists in the formation of a hierarchical model, whose elements reflect the industry feature of the enterprise’s functioning. To assess the level of economic security, a corresponding coefficient is proposed that characterizes the ability of an enterprise to effectively use resources, adequately condemn existing and potential threats, and ensure the sustainable operation of enterprises in the short-term outlook and development in the long term. Practical significance. Practical approval of the proposed methodological approach in the process of assessing the level of economic security of coal mining enterprises that are part of CJSC “Vneshtorgservis” of the Branch № 2 of CJSC “Vneshtorgservis” OD “Krasnodonugol”, made it possible to rank the assessed mines according to the level of economic security and develop measures to improve it.
